STITT HOME EARNS SUSTAINABILITY AWARD

The Ford-Walters residence is a custom-built net-zero energy home that has a passive solar design that allows the winter sun to come through the south windows warming the home while the roof overhangs keep the hot summer sun out. It was recently awarded the Housing Sustainability Award at the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce Construction and Developers Awards Banquet.

What makes this home stand out?

With an airtight energy envelope, natural ventilation, high-efficiency heating, and air systems, and LED lighting, this house has reduced home energy consumption to create a comfortable living environment. Reducing energy consumption is critical to achieving net-zero energy, but producing clean energy is also part of the equation. This home has 19.9 kW of solar PV that provides more than 100% of the power for their home and two electric vehicles.

This home and the owners are truly in touch with their natural surroundings and understand the importance and value of reducing their carbon footprint. Others recognize the importance of this– including the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce! Recognized at the organization’s Construction and Developers Awards Banquet with the Housing Sustainability Award, this progressive and efficient home is the envy of neighbors!
